Boiler Inspection Sector


The Boiler Inspection Department is the service rendering organizations under the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection (DISI).

            The boiler Law was enacted in 14 July, 2015 to replace the Boiler Law 1984. The Boiler Inspection Department inspects all boilers in the whole country in accordance with the law of 2015 and International Boiler Standards on yearly basis. Over 2300 boilers are now in use in various industries in Myanmar.


1.   BOILER DEFINITION

            Boiler means any closed pressure vessel in which steam is generated for use external to itself by application of heat and include any mounting or fitting attached to such vessel. But it does not apply to any vessel of less than 25 liters or 5.5 gallons capacity or less than one kilogram per square centimeter or 14.2 pounds per square inch design gauge pressure and any mounting or fitting attached to such vessel.

 

2.   OBJECTIVES

(a) to prevent explosions, accidents, damages of boilers and loss of life and property.

            (b) to use the boilers with full capacity by efficient use of  fuel energy .

(c) to use the boilers for maximum span of life and to reduce the impact on natural social health environment due to such use of boiler.

(d) to use the boiler in accordance with Myanmar Standards or International Standards.

 

3.   FUNCTIONS

The main functions of boiler inspection are:

(a)Supervision and inspection  at all stages of construction

(b)Inspection for unregistered boilers to be registered.

            (c) Annual inspection   for renewal of certificate for use of boiler.

            (d) Subsequent inspection for boilers after being repaired.

            (e) Inspection for boiler accidents and emergency cases.

            (f)  Certification and recognition of boiler repairer and attendant.

4.   CAPACITY OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT

(a) to recommend the capacity and type of boiler depending on the process of works.

(b) to check the newly imported boiler from foreign countries in accordance with the International Boiler Standards.

(c) to select and supervise the specifications of boiler auxiliary and spare parts to be imported from foreign countries.

(d) to repair a boiler  deteriorate in service in accordance with the standards and designs.

(e) to recommend the characteristics of feed water and boiler water depending on the boiler types.

(f)  yearly training courses for boiler attendants.

5.   REQUIREMENTS FOR THE REGISTRATION OF NEWLY IMPORTED BOILER

            (a) Inspecting authority’s certificates of inspection during construction.

            (b) Constructor’s certificates of Manufacture and Test.

            (c) Material certificates (Chemical & Physical properties).

            (d) Detail drawing of new boiler.

            (e) Radiographic examination results for welded seams.

            (f)  Heat treatment test results.

            (g) Maker’s stamp (Name Plate)

            (h) Plan of boiler and steam pipe.

 

6.   TYPES OF BOILERS

      Two main types are Fire Tube Boiler and Water Tube Boiler.

(a)Cornish Boiler

(b)Lancashire Boiler

(c) Vertical Cross Tube Boiler

(d) Loco Boiler

(e) Horizontal Tubular Boiler

(f)  Marine Boiler

(g) Colonial Boiler

(h) Economic Boiler

(i)  Vertical Tubular Boiler

(j)  Cochran Boiler

(k )Water Tube Boiler
